Power Supplies

External Power Supply for a 4-Pin Connector

Power supplies & where they're used?

As consoles have advanced throughout time, power supplies have had to be developed further with their power consumption and wattage to fulfill the needs of dedicated consoles & systems. As consoles have become bigger and more advanced, the need for a more powerful PSU is needed so work arounds have been made with both internal and external power supplies.

Most consoles post 5th generation consoles, have had internal power supplies to power the consoles however this became a thing of the past when the use of internal power supplies was causing problems with the system becoming over heated & PSU's becoming quite large meaning they cannot fit in the consoles frame work easily. Most systems use external power supplies now as they can then design the console around the main hardware instead of having to fit a power supply within the console build.

External power supplies are more commonly used with consoles as this is a more preferred and easier approach to powering consoles & systems.
